How do you extract a color palette from an image?

Your image is drawn to a downscaled canvas inside your browser and its pixels are sampled. The tool then runs median-cut quantization over those colors to reduce them to a handful of representative swatches that capture the image's dominant tones.

Can I change how many colors are extracted?

Yes. A slider lets you pick anywhere from 2 to 12 swatches, with a default of 6. Fewer swatches surface only the dominant colors; more swatches capture subtler tones.

Can I copy the HEX and RGB values?

Each swatch's HEX and RGB value can be copied with one click. You can also copy the whole palette at once as CSS custom properties (:root --color-*) or as a Tailwind colors snippet.

Can I save the swatches as an image?

Yes. You can export the extracted palette as a horizontal swatch-strip PNG and download it — handy for dropping into design docs or mockups.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Loading the image, sampling pixels, extracting colors, and exporting the PNG all happen inside your browser. Your images are never sent to or stored on a server.
