What is this AVIF to JPEG converter?

AVIF to JPG for channels you don't control
This conversion is about delivery to the lowest common denominator. Email recipients on unknown clients, government and enterprise portals with strict file whitelists, print shops running older prepress software, decade-old intranet systems: none of these can be counted on to open an AVIF, and you rarely get to ask. JPG is the one image format that has never bounced anywhere, which is exactly the guarantee these handoffs need.
The trade is deliberate: you give up AVIF's efficiency and features in exchange for the certainty that the file opens on the other end without a support ticket.
One extra lossy generation, and no room for transparency in JPG
AVIF and JPG are both lossy, so this conversion stacks a second generation of compression on top of the first. Keep the quality slider high, 85 to 95, and the added loss stays effectively invisible; at aggressive settings, artifacts build faster than a first-generation JPG would show. Expect the JPG to come out around 1.5 to 2 times the size of the AVIF at similar visual quality, which is the point: compatibility, not compactness.
One format fact to plan around: JPG has no transparency. An AVIF logo or cutout with a transparent background has no JPG equivalent, since every JPG pixel must be an opaque color. For transparent artwork, PNG is the correct maximum-compatibility target instead.
