What is this Excel to CSV converter?
A free, browser-based tool that converts an Excel (.xlsx) sheet to CSV. Drop a workbook, pick a sheet, and copy or download the result. All processing happens locally in your browser, so your spreadsheet is never uploaded and no Excel installation is needed.
Getting a workbook ready for systems that only accept CSV
Bulk upload templates for ad platforms, CRM import wizards, database loaders, and BI pipelines all speak the same narrow dialect: one flat table of plain text. Before converting, shape the sheet accordingly. Put the column headers in row 1, keep one record per row, and move titles, notes, and summary rows somewhere else. Unmerge any merged ranges: in the export, a merged value lands only in its top-left position and the rest of the range comes out as empty fields.
A CSV can carry exactly one table, so it pays to maintain a deliberately clean sheet whose only job is to feed the import.
What Excel features vanish on the way to CSV
CSV stores characters and separators, nothing more. Formulas do not travel: each formula cell exports the result currently stored in the workbook, so recalculate and save before converting if you have edited inputs. Colors, conditional formatting, comments, data validation, and column widths have no representation and disappear without warning.
Cells are exported as they are displayed. A cell showing 3/14/26 exports as that string even though the underlying value is a full date, and a percentage exports the way it reads on screen. Set each column's number format to the exact pattern the receiving system documents (ISO dates like 2026-03-14 are the safest bet) before you convert.
How to use it
- Drop an Excel (.xlsx / .xls) file, or click to choose one. It is read locally — nothing is uploaded.
- If the workbook has several sheets, pick the one to convert.
- Copy the CSV result or download it as a file.
How the data is mapped
- Each row of the selected sheet becomes one CSV record; cell values are exported as displayed.
- CSV quoting follows RFC 4180, so commas, quotes, and line breaks inside cells survive the round trip.
- Only the selected sheet is converted — pick another sheet from the dropdown to convert it too.
